This particular Kentucky Bourbon owes, in a certain sense, its success to a woman: the wife of William Samuels, the distillery's original owner. A great connoisseur and collector of cognac, it was she who suggested to her husband the distinctive bottle with its sealing wax cap, and, not content with that, she conceived both the whiskey's name and its distinctive label. An enterprising and astute woman, she unwittingly sealed the fate of this beautiful Bourbon. Produced exclusively from barley and wheat, without the use of rye, and with little aging, Maker's Mark is an atypical spirit, sweeter and more delicate than its Bourbon brethren.
Whisky Maker's Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon, when tasted, presents a deep, brilliant gold color. It has a rich and complex nose of fruit and spice, citrus zest, sultanas, and a hint of toasted oak. On the palate, it's full and smooth, with notes of butter, vanilla, and walnut, and a lovely woody finish.
Plain or diluted with a little water or, in the American style, with a slice of lemon.
